Street Captains
A "Street Captain" is a key member in our Neighborhood Watch Program. The street captain is an integral part of our component to keep their block involved in crime prevention efforts and the exchange of information between neighbors. While their role is important, it does not carry any law enforcement authority. They facilitate the unity of residents on their street. If they witness a crime or suspicious activity, they will observe from a safe distance without confronting the suspected offender. Being a street captain can be a rewarding experience. They meet neighbors they may otherwise have never met. They keep their neighbors informed about community incidents and securing their homes.

Yard of the Month (YOTM)
The Park Forest Crime Prevention and Improvement District along with the Park Forest Community Association are dedicated to improving the quality of living and appearance of our community. To encourage our neighbors to maintain the same standards, PFCPID and PFCA established the Yard of the Month Program. The YOTM Program encourages our residents to take pride in their homes and our neighborhood. We look to celebrate those who do a superior job in maintaining their yards in such a way that they enhance the overall appearance of the entire community. This program is to reward exemplary lawn and property maintenance by recognizing neighbors who demonstrate exceptional efforts to maintain and improve their property. The program is conducted entirely by a committee of volunteers.

Blight and Ordinance Violations
Blight is a term for land that is dilapidated and hazardous to the health, safety, or welfare of the public. Such conditions may include accumulations of junk, garbage, litter, and junked appliances and vehicles. Blight has become a great issue in Baton Rouge, thereby prompting the mayor to establish a blight elimination team composed of multiple governmental agencies. Representatives from Park Forest participate in the team meetings. There is a link between blighted property and criminal activity, resulting in unsafe communities and declining property values. The PFCPID and PFCA work diligently and proactively to control and eliminate blight in the Park Forest Community.
